Zone 8a I planted this 2026 05 01 in Full sun but partial shade in the afternoon. It is now 2026 07 14. Since it is the first year, I've kept the soil damp but not wet. Soil amendments were added at planting. It was lovely at first, blooming well. I deadheaded the spent blooms, but it has not rebloomed. The plant looks stressed, the foliage looks poor, no longer a healthy green; some leaves are already turning partially brown at the tips. Since the summer solstice, it has typically been hot, with little rain, but I observe my garden every day and water accordingly. I'm puzzled and disappointed by this plant's lack of thriving; it is supposed to be fairly hardy and self-sufficient. My other salivas (Salvia Sensation Florsaldblue, Lyrical, Mystical Spires, Mealy cup) are fine.

I have planted 17 of these on my front yard and everybody loves them. They receive 8 hours of sun daily and i fertilize with miracle grow general purpose every 3 weeks in early spring and then shift to miracle grow bloom booster when they are about to flower. I always get 3 full blooms per year and absolutely live them! Thank you Proven Winners!

I planted 3 of these in a well amended bed that gets 6 hours of sun, along with salvia greggii, indigo spires and salvia penstemonoides. These were the only salvias that performed poorly and declined as the summer season ramped up here in central Texas, 8b. They did return from winter and flushed a small bloom cycle before declining once again as summer weather returned. Although rated for zone 8, I think 8b is pushing their limits for heat tolerance and sun intensity.

I have several salvia and this is my favorite hands down. The plant is more lush than any others I’ve grown. The flowers are larger and what I love most is the calyx the flowers grow on are pink also so even when they’re done blooming they look like they are.
